Many people believe that living a healthy lifestyle is just way too complicated, so they don’t even try. They’re content, or at least they say they are, living a life that falls short of where they truly want to be.
Today I’m here to tell you that being healthy isn’t complicated, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Keep reading as I share 10 steps to a healthier you, and the best news is that you can get started today!
10 Steps to a Healthier You
1. Fuel your body with a healthy diet
Eating healthy doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Make a shopping list before you head out to the grocery store, and be sure to include lots of fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and snacks that are high in protein and low in sugar. Planning your meals each week will help you to get everything you need at the grocery store without buying things you don’t need.
2. Find outdoor activities that you enjoy
Getting outdoors is so important for good health. You get fresh air and sunshine, and a little physical activity will make you feel great. Try biking, hiking with your dog, or even playing a sport you love. You’ll be surprised how amazing you feel just being outside soaking up the sun.
3. Keep your heart healthy with cardio exercises
Whether you’re riding a bike, jogging, or doing a low-impact workout, your heart will appreciate a little cardio activity on a regular basis. Of course, you should consult your doctor if you have any concerns about your heart health.
4. Include some strength training in your workouts
Strength training helps your body build muscle, and it will help you feel stronger and healthier. Doing just a little bit of strength training each week can bring amazing results to your body and your overall feelings of wellness.
5. Practice deep breathing for 2 minutes every hour
Slow, deep breaths are a great way to give your body a much needed break every hour. You will experience an instant feeling of relaxation and stress relief when you take a couple of minutes and just let your body “be”.
6. Measure and chart your progress
If you’re working on getting healthier by losing weight and/or inches, measure your progress each month. Seeing your positive results in writing is definitely a motivator that will help you stay focused on your healthy lifestyle goals.
7. Control your calendar
Some people get super stressed out because there’s so much to do. That’s why I recommend keeping tight controls on your calendar. Don’t take on more than you can handle. Start saying “no” to requests and invitations that don’t get you excited. Understand that how you spend your time is an important part of staying healthy and happy.
8. Walk on a regular basis
Walking is a fun and simple activity that can be done anywhere, any time. It’s a great way to give your body a little bit of physical activity, and a walk can be such a stress reliever. Don’t forget to take your dog along with you!
9. Music is good for the soul
Whether you’re working out, cleaning house, driving, or just relaxing, music is a wonderful way to fill your heart and your senses. Create a playlist that sets your soul on fire and listen to it often!
10. Sleep, sleep, sleep
The importance of sleep can never be overstated. Sleep is when your body heals itself, detoxifies, and regenerates. If you’re not getting enough sleep, your health is going to suffer. Make sure you’re getting 7-8 hours a night so that you awake feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.
As always, I highly recommend seeing your doctor if you have questions about your health. Have questions about how to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle? I’d love to chat!
